In this collectively written article, the authors interrogate contemporary power constellations that run between control and connectivity. Regimes of individualism, hierarchies of assumed classifications and imperialistic subjectivities sustain the basis for political control that organises connections and divisions used to justify hierarchical dominations and distributions. This makes anti-oppression practices that value differing forms of connectivity and intra-dependence (between humans, more than humans, disciplines, all things considered to be of different bodies) nearly unimaginable. The authors offer/reconfigure/understand connectivity as a practice acting (...) in and at odds with those controlling political regimes that organise and classify matter(s), while experimenting with their own writing methodology aimed at staying connected. Informed by new materialist feminist practices and ideas, the authors discuss the political stakes of multiple ideas of connectivity within three empirical scenarios: academic labour practices, social media and a digitally established mutual aid community. We trace entangled forces of separation and control shaped by global imperialism, processes of individuation and technological apparatuses and how they perform within these scenarios. This approach is mirrored in our practice of writing together. In an alternative to traditionalised ways of writing, we expand upon an embodied praxis, elaborating on multiple engagements while offering our own connections with these differing situated knowledges. In light of this, the authors write in a diffractive, collective fashion that lies somewhere between a conversation and the strict linearity of typical narratives. (shrink)

The purpose of the study is to determine the personal results of students with disabilities and to identify the necessary conditions for effective work with this category of children in distance learning. The analysis of the results revealed the need for the use of subject-oriented technology in the educational process, which contributes to the formation of the subjective position of students, allowing for the individualization of the educational process, maximally compensating for developmental deficits caused by diseases. This article offers an alternative approach to paradigms that cast culture solely as a nurturing influence on children's language development. It proposes a dimensional model of Child-Directed Communication to delineate ways in which a community's habitus may impede the communicative potential of children with neuro-developmental conditions such as severe autism. It argues that certain features of Euro-American CDC are illadapted for autistic children. Due to inertia, caregivers often find themselves unable to transcend the limitations of CDC habitus. Yet, occasionally, a (...) transformation in CDC emerges that more effectively engages children with impairments. The article analyzes one such transformation forged in the niche of a unique mother–son relationship in India and then introduced in the USA. (shrink)

Argues that although the phenomenon of negative recency in secondary memory is usually attributed to the reduced amount of rehearsal associated with recency items, this phenomenon can be explained by the adoption of a different type of processing for recency items. An experiment with 122 undergraduates is reported in which the recall of recency items was reduced in an immediate test, but increased in a subsequent test, under conditions in which the recency items could not be identified as such during (...) their presentation. El artículo presenta el análisis de las implicaciones de evaluar la comprensión de lectura y la redacción en pruebas de ingreso a la educación superior, como una consideración necesaria para el desarrollo de una política de competencia comunicativa. Se describe el diseño de un instrumento, partiendo de la concepción sociosemiótica de la lengua, del enfoque metodológico de la comprensión por niveles intra, inter y extratextual, ligado a procesos cognitivos, y la escritura como tecnología. Se incluye, además, un concepto de evaluación (...) enmarcado en el desarrollo de competencia, es decir, los resultados de la prueba se utilizan, por fuera de concepciones deterministas excluyentes, para mostrar un estado de la competencia y las acciones posibles de mejoramiento de la misma. Pretende-se expor algumas condições necessárias para se instaurar um processo em que formação e pesquisa são indissociáveis, bem como os seus respectivos resultadas, procurando salientar que essa alternativa pode representar uma ruptura na pedagogia que reforça as atitudes conformistas inscritas na própria lógica da reprodução escolar - que hoje constituem um dos principais obstáculos ao desenvolvimento da ciência social -, ao mesmo tempo que promove o fortalecimento do meio acadêmico e do contexto social em que está inserido.

This paper uses the critical reflections of Jeffrey Barash on the matter of the symbol in the works of Paul Ricœur. The interpreter, interested mostly in the locus of collective memory that can be found in Memory, History, Forgetting, considers the urge of abandoning Husserl’s concept of analogy, used by Ricœur. For this purpose, he draws our attention to the concept of symbol that Ricœur avoids developing in the context of the discussion on memory. Consequently, he researches the background of (...) the matter in Freud and Philosophy and Time and Narrative. In this paper, I will try to show that the course imparted in Chicago in 1975, Lectures on Ideology and Utopia, is the appropriate work to answer from the perspective of symbolism to the problems of the constitution of collective memory through the contribution made by Ricœur in his work on ideology. It is no coincidence that the relationship between Paul Ricoeur and Michel Foucault has been principally discussed in research carried out by specialists in one of these two thinkers. Although active at the same time, the scholar can easily get the impression that they worked in two parallel philosophical universes. This paper will argue, however, that a comparative reading is nonetheless possible. Taking identity and the subject as key areas of discussion, as well as the methodology used to deal with (...) these themes, this paper will highlight the continuities between both the philosophers’ world views. A reading of their post-1980 works makes it clear that both of them, each in his respective way, can enrich a reading of the other and that, more than just being contemporaries, they share several important points in common. A RESPONSABILIDADE CIVIL DO ESTADO NOS CRIMES COMETIDOS CONTRA TRANSGÊNEROS DENTRO DOS PRESÍDIOS MASCULINOS BRASILEIROS.

As considerações do presente artigo dizem respeito à formação proposta pelas escolas de ofício católicas aos filhos de trabalhadores, que se localizavam em Porto Alegre/RS, a partir dos fins do século passado até 1970, cujo processo encontra-se inserido num movimento social mais amplo, voltado à produção do habitante da cidade - o cidadão.

Procura-se destacar o papel do campo religioso na criação de meios e práticas de cunho pedagógico voltados à formação do cidadão de segmentos populares que habitam. Porto Alegre. Tal empreendimento tem sido sustentado pelos representantes da Igreja Católica, desde o final do século XIX, através de estratégias desencadeadas para mobilizar os interesses de inúmeros agentes dos demais campos sociais. O impresso tem constituído um meio importante na obtenção de solidariedade em tomo de tal propósito.

Esse texto comenta alguns dos pressupostos do pensamento científico.e expõe como alguns cientistas têm procedido em seus estudos e pesquisas. Para capturar as principais dimensões do tempo que configuram a construção do social, ainda, tece algumas considerações sobre as possibilidades de convergência, entre as diversas áreas das Ciências Humanas e Sociais, quando pesquisas privilegiam o tempo - uma categoria de análise de caráter universal e, por isso, capaz de articular as várias áreas da ciência.

Мета дослідження статті полягає у вивченні концептуальних підходів щодо філософії науки в її темпоральному розвитку і відповідний вплив на модель структури наукового знання. Стаття розглядає ключові етапи цього розвитку, визначаючи важливість аналізу змін у філософському підґрунті для розуміння наукового прогресу. Метод дослідження базується на системному аналізі філософських концепцій, які формували погляди на науку в різні історичні періоди. Застосування історико-філософського підходу дозволяє відстежити еволюцію наукового мислення від античності до сучасності.Результати дослідження надають узагальнений огляд ключових концепцій філософії науки на кожному історичному етапі, (...) визначаючи суть та роль науки в різні епохи. Теоретичне значення дослідження полягає в систематизації та аналізі різноманітних підходів до філософії науки, що дозволяє розкрити глибинні зв’язки між концептуальними змінами та розвитком наукового пізнання. Практичне значення полягає у можливості використання отриманих висновків для вдосконалення освітніх програм, розвитку наукових досліджень та формування стратегій для науково-педагогічної діяльності.Оригінальність дослідження виявляється в комплексному підході до вивчення еволюції філософських концепцій науки та їх значення у формуванні структури наукового знання в конкретний історичний період. Перспективи подальших досліджень передбачають детальний аналіз взаємодії науки та суспільства в контексті сучасних тенденцій, а також дослідження впливу технологічних інновацій на філософію науки. El presupuesto de una eficaz transmisión de conocimientos es su adecuado almacenamiento, algo que el hombre ha conseguido de modo excelente, merced al lenguaje simbólico, íntimamente ligado a su capacidad de abstraer. La educación debe capacitar para relacionar causalmente los conocimientos dispersos e integrarlos críticamente en una visión holística del mundo. La utilización de las TIC reporta ventajas muy importantes, pero no carece de sombras y aspectos preocupantes. Por ejemplo, el control exhaustivo de todo lo que somos y hacemos. Todos (...) parecen estar de acuerdo en que los criterios por los que se rige el desarrollo humano son unilaterales e insuficientes. Pero va a ser muy difícil luchar eficazmente contra los instintos de agresividad, posesión y dominio, tan profundamente arraigados en nuestras disposiciones genéticas, ya que ello implica sacrificios personales y colectivos, difícilmente aceptables, si no se parte de valoraciones morales distintas de las comúnmente admitidas en nuestros días. Apresenta a concepção de Rawls acerca da família, desenvolvida após as contribuições de Susan Okin. Expõe a evolução do conceito de família nas sociedades ocidentais até chegar à noção contemporânea de entidade familiar. Reflete acerca das contribuições que podem ser extraídas para o campo jurídico-dogmático. O presente número da VERITAS reúne a maioria das palestras proferidas por professores e pesquisadores da PUCRS e de outras universidades, junto aos Cursos de Extensão que foram realizados em 1994 e 1995, na PUCRS.*Um autor, uma abordagem: Pierre Bourdieu. *Um autor, uma abordagem: Jürgen Habermas. * Tempo: uma categoria, várias abordagens. Tais cursos foram organizados com o intuito de aprofundar alguns dos pressupostos epistemológicos que embasam as investigações que venho desenvolvendo, juntamente com uma equipe, as quais se articulam à (...) sublinha de pesquisa "formação, trabalho, instituição". Nessa perspectiva, o foco de interesse desses eventos centra-se no referencial teórico-metodológico de autores - Pierre Bourdieu e Jürgen Habermas - e na categoria de análise de caráter universal - o tempo – enquanto fundamentos indispensáveis ao ato de pesquisar. Essa publicação é mérito, em primeiro lugar, do diretor dessa revista que em vários momentos instigou-me a encontrar os meios para realizar esse empreendimento. Em segundo lugar, dos palestrantes que aceitaram produzir um texto sobre o assunto que haviam abordado há alguns meses atrás. Também, é mérito das pessoas que manifestaram interesse em obter o texto das palestras que integraram esses eventos, o que assegurou o ânimo para se concretizar esse trabalho. O presente artigo aborda o tempo enquanto uma categoria de análise, de interesse universal, com possibilidades de oferecer uma compreensão globalizante dos fenômenos. Já que integra a realidade como um todo. Assim, as várias áreas da ciência têm condições de articular-se através de estudos e pesquisas que privilegiam o tempo, pois é uma categoria que se constrói na multiplicidade e, por isso, expressa/condensa as inúmeras dimensões que compõem o real.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the lives of millions of people around the globe and some of the unprecedent emerged disruptions, are likely to have been particularly challenging for young children. Studying the impact of such extraordinary circumstances on their well-being is crucial to identify processes leading to risk and resilience. To better understand how Spanish children have adapted to the stressful disruptions resulting from the pandemic outbreak, we examined the effects of child coping and its interactions with contextual stressors (...) on child adjustment, incorporating in our analysis a developmental perspective. Data was collected in April 2020, through parent-reports, during the acute phase of the pandemic and, temporarily coinciding with the mandatory national quarantine period imposed by the Spanish Government. A sample of 1,123 Spanish children aged 3 to 12 participated in the study. Results showed differences in the use of specific strategies by children in different age groups. Despite the uncontrollable nature of the pandemic-related stressors, child disengagement coping was distinctively associated to negative outcomes, whereas engagement coping predicted psychosocial adjustment across all age groups. Moreover, interactively with child coping, parent fear of the future and parent dispositional resilience appear as relevant contextual factors to predict both negative and positive outcomes, but their effects seem to be age dependent, suggesting a higher contextual vulnerability for younger children. These findings might have implications for identifying individual and contextual risk and informing potential preventive interventions aimed to reduce the impact of future pandemic outbreaks on children of different ages. El conocimiento sobre Fernando el Católico en la actualidad continúa siendo bastante limitado, especialmente en lo referente a sus últimos días y posterior muerte. Tradicionalmente se achacó su deterioro de salud, según los principales historiadores coetáneos y posteriores, al empleo abusivo de afrodisíacos para poder engendrar al ansiado heredero con la reina Germana de Foix. Pedro Mártir de Anglería fue el único que recogió datos de forma continuada en el tiempo, que han sido pasados por alto por la historiografía. Mediante (...) un estudio interdisciplinar, se ha realizado una lectura sistemática de las cartas del Epistolario del humanista lombardo, extrayendo todas las noticias del progreso de su salud para trazar un cuadro clínico. A partir de este, los afrodisíacos quedan definitivamente excluidos como causa del deterioro de la salud del rey. Tomando los edemas y la disnea como principales síntomas, se ofrece una nueva hipótesis sobre el fallecimiento del Rey: el fallo cardíaco. According to the main historians, the obit of the king was caused by the massive use of aphrodisiacs due to the desire of fathering an heir with Germaine of Foix. The works of Pedro Mártir de Anglería offers much more data about the evolution of Ferdinand's disease that was never kept in mind. Through an interdisciplinary study, a systematic reading of the Epistolario letters of the lombard humanist has been carried out in order to describe a medical condition. Based on it, the thesis of abuse of aphrodisiacs has to be discard completly. As the oedemas and dyspnoea are the principal sytoms, a new hypothesis about the death of the Catholic King is offered: the heart failure. The Family Health Program is characterized as an important space to develop activities related to Nutrition, once the health community agent is a qualified, potential multiplier when performing these actions. The aim of this study was to conduct a qualifying pilot experiment on food and nutrition for health community agents from a family health unit in Botucatu. Fourteen community agents participated and the course presented the following steps: observation of reality, a survey of perceived necessities, devising the main intervention themes, (...) and course development. The main focus was on existing diseases in the attended community like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, dyslepidemia and other themes related to preventing these diseases, for example, food fiber, water physical exercises, and the appropriate use of diet and light products. Besides these themes, there was also a presentation about the food pyramid and how to transmit recommendations for the visited families. The experience was positive with great interest and knowledge enhancement on the part of health community agents. In case there is a positive impact on the nutritional condition of the community attended by these agents, the Project may be extended to other Family Health units in Botucatu. Furthermore, the study also shows that to prepare such courses, it is crucial a nutritionist participation, because of the contribution this Professional may provide to the work group in which he is inserted. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo caracterizar investigaciones sobre representaciones sociales de docentes y estudiantes acerca de la escritura en la educación superior. La revisión sistemática se efectuó siguiendo la metodología propuesta por la Declaración PRISMA. La búsqueda, que fue realizada en las bases de datos WOS, Scopus, Scielo y ERIC, permitió identificar 20 artículos entre los que predomina el enfoque cualitativo. Como elementos recurrentes se destacan la necesidad de que en la universidad se enseñe explícitamente a escribir y la persistencia (...) de representaciones, que vinculan la escritura con la evaluación. The article reports the findings of a study conducted among 387 consumers regarding their perceptions of the unethicality of business practices of firms and how these affect their response behavior, in terms of trust, satisfaction, and loyalty. The study confirmed that high levels of perceived corporate unethicality decrease consumer trust. This in turn reduces consumer satisfaction, which ultimately has negative effects on customer loyalty. It was also revealed that, although both consumer gender and urbanity have a moderating effect on the (...) link between perceived unethicality and trust, the age group and level of education of the consumer did not exhibit such an effect. With regard to consumer cultural characteristics, both high uncertainty avoidance and low individualism were found to increase the negative impact of business unethicality on trust, as opposed to power distance and masculinity that did not have any moderating effect on this relationship. Implications for managers are extracted from the study findings, as well as directions for future research. (shrink)

As political and economic systems of the world become increasingly globalized, education systems in developed nations have established standardized curriculum. Meanwhile, opposing interpretations of globalization, neoliberalism and progressivism, have inspired the growth of different paradigmatic models for global education. Grounded in neoliberalism, the human capital model views education as a means for preparing a skilled workforce; derived from progressivism, the world systems model focuses on educating individuals for global citizenship and civic participation. The purpose of this document analysis is two-fold: (...) (1) to examine the social studies content standards of the U.S. and other developed countries to determine how globalization is presented in state-mandated curricula, and (2) to evaluate whether the depiction of globalization in each set of standards reflects a human capital or world systems model. Our findings indicate that U.S. state content standards heavily emphasize the economics of globalization; non-U.S. standards present a more holistic picture of globalization. Consequently, U.S. standards are more aligned with a human capital model of education whereas non-U.S. standards reflect a world systems interpretation. These findings suggest that students in the U.S. are prepared differently than their counterparts in other developed countries, which has implications for international relations. (shrink)

An accessible analysis of the global expansion of financial markets in poor communities, incorporating the latest thinking and evidence.

The role of bacterial variation in the waxing and waning of epidemics was a subject of lively debate in late nineteenth and early twentieth-century bacteriology and epidemiology. The notion that changes in bacterial virulence were responsible for the rise and fall of epidemic diseases was an often-voiced, but little investigated hypothesis made by late nineteenth-century epidemiologists. It was one of the first hypotheses to be tested by scientists who attempted to study epidemiological questions using laboratory methods. This paper examines how (...) two groups of experimental epidemiologists, the British group led by W. W. C. Topley and Major Greenwood, and an American group directed by Leslie T. Webster at the Rockefeller Institute, studied the role of variations in bacterial virulence in the course of laboratory epidemics of mouse typhoid. Relying on Ludwik Fleck’s concept of thought styles and thought collectives, the paper analyzes the fundamental conceptual differences between these two groups of researchers and analyzes the kinds of innovations they introduced as they attempted to integrate bacteriological and epidemiological approaches. The paper shows that the stylistic differences between the two groups can be understood better in the context of the institutional histories and disciplinary relations of epidemiology and bacteriology in the two countries. The Brazilian ayahuasca religions, Santo Daime, Barquinha, and União do Vegetal, have increasingly sought formal recognition by government agencies in Brazil and other countries to guarantee their legal use of ayahuasca, which contains DMT, a substance that is listed. This article focuses on new alliances and rifts that have emerged between and among different ayahuasca groups as they have sought and in some cases achieved formal recognition and legitimacy at the state and national levels in Brazil and abroad. It presents (...) a historical overview of the origin of the main ayahuasca religions, and their connections to the Amazon region and the state of Acre in particular, where the political environment has facilitated petitions seeking the elevation of ayahuasca as cultural and historical heritage in Acre and Brazil. This process has resulted in the active selection of certain symbolic, cultural, and historical elements and subtle changes in the ways various ayahuasca groups represent themselves in the public sphere. It also resulted in the reconfiguration of political alliances and a recasting of the historical facts regarding origins. The article reflects on notions of origin, place, authenticity, and tradition throughout the ongoing transformation of ayahuasca from “dangerous drug” to state and national heritage. (shrink)
